SAMPLE BOARD OF EDUCATION LETTER or SPEECH FROM PARENT or TEACHER. ALTER TO SUIT YOUR NEEDS.
My name is _________________. I am here tonight because I am a member of this (District Name) family.
I have been part of the (District Name) for _____ years. I know that all of you on this board are similarly invested in this (District Name) family and are likewise dedicated to our core values. (Look up your district’s Mission Statement/Goals/Strategic Plan/Values/Beliefs on their homepage. Tailor the next section to your district’s values/beliefs)
Mutual respect, Independence, Trust, Teamwork, Integrity, Passion for Excellence, and Responsibility.
These core values of ours are under attack by our state governor!
Where is the Mutual respect when people are being forced against their individual religious or moral beliefs, against their personal health issues or medical concerns to vax or test or lose their jobs?
Where is our Independence if we succumb to mandates and no longer have freedom of choice?
How can there be Trust when our appointed and elected officials go back on their word and rule with intimidation?
Where is the Teamwork when no one is participating in the decision-making process in government or workplace. Mandates/edicts/rulings from on high at county and state levels with No End Goal defined is simply a powerplay about control and oppression.
Where is the Integrity when some of our (District Name) family is being segregated and discriminated against and even bullied by peers because of their personal values and beliefs? Is our beloved (District Name) still located in the United States of America with a Constitution and Bill of Rights?
When do we take Responsibility for doing our part to stand up for those who are being persecuted? If not now, if not for our own, when? We must respect and protect peoples' right to individual freedom and medical choice!
We teach DASA to the students of our district, and teachers are required to report to the state any cases of student harassment based on religious practice, identity expression, religion, race, weight, ethnicity, etc. and Other! On the NYS website it says DASA “combats bias-based bullying, harassment, and discrimination in public schools and includes awareness and sensitivity in the relations of people. And yet the State governor is bullying the districts with mandates and the districts must pass it down to the students and staff, and on it goes affecting the school environments, the families and parents, the communities and home lives too. With these mandates we are full on engaged in exactly the bullying behaviors we teach our students are WRONG! The result equals a deterioration of our values, a stressful school and home environment, and many angry and stressed students, staff, and teachers who are fearful for their futures.
I have had dozens of our (District Name) family reach out to me about everything I just said. And there are hundreds more that I don’t know in the district who feel similarly. And yet look how many have come out to talk to you! Some are busy with family responsibilities tonight, but many are afraid to speak up, and many more will go on living lives of quiet desperation because they don’t think they can make a difference.
But I believe that speaking up in our (District Name) family does matter, does make a difference – because I know you. And I know you truly believe in our core values.
Look at what we were able to achieve in the Opt Out movement against the standardized testing that was mandated by the State!
I am asking you, as elected community members, to please join our growing numbers of parents and teachers across WNY who are uniting to support choice and to reject over-reaching mandates – including forced medical interventions on our students, staff, and teachers.
I understand that the district has to comply with the State mandates, however you as Board Members can still support your (District Name) family by speaking out against the mandates through such actions as drafting a resolution that publicly condemns discrimination and bullying regarding medical choices, or contacting the National School Boards Association along with other school boards and asking them to join and support you.
I hope for your understanding and support. And I thank you for your time.
